Alabama Yellow Perch
We have successfully transferred brood stock into Alabama. In March, the first eggs were taken at Gadsden State Community College. This cooperative program with Gadsden State under the direction of Dr. Hugh Hammer, PhD is, as far as we know, the first of its kind in Alabama dealing with the species.
The eggs were subsequently transferred into two ponds where they have now hatched and have produced many thousands of yellow perch fry. Some of the fry have been transferred to our Guntersville property where they are responding well to raceway culture.
Our intent is to have yellow perch fingerlings available for sale to interested growers for grow-out to market size product. We will purchase the market-sized fish for processing into fillets for distribution to established markets.
